In Ontario and Alberta there are Collision Reporting Centres to enable drivers to self-report collisions without the assistance of a police officer. If your vehicle is still driveable and the collision is minor with no significant damage, damage of less than $2000 combined, and there are no injuries, you are eligible to go to a collision reporting centre instead of filing a police traffic collision report. You must go to the collision reporting centre within 24 hours of the accident to file the report. If your accident is outside of typical business hours, go to the collision reporting centre at the earliest on the next day it is open.
Collision reporting centres can be found across Ontario and Alberta, but you must go to the nearest collision reporting centre to the accident. If there is no collision reporting centre close to you, contact your local police to be directed towards the preferred collision reporting centre.
The collision report centre will walk you through the details of the accident, recording and reviewing the events that took place, along with taking photos of your vehicle. Remember to bring your driver’s license, contact information, insurance information and vehicle information. Collision report centres do not charge a fee to file a vehicle collision report. You will be able to access a copy of your collision report online through Service Ontario for a fee of $12 CAD.

SASKATCHEWAN
Effective August 1, 2002, Saskatchewan motorists will only have to report motor vehicle collisions to police if the collision involves:
- Any bodily injury or death
- A Hit-and-Run
- A driver impaired by alcohol or drugs
- A motor vehicle towed from the scene
- An out-of-province vehicle.
Normally, police would be dispatched to the collisions described above. One exception may be an owner’s discovery that his/her vehicle has been damaged in a hit-and-run, but the vehicle can still be safely driven to Police Headquarters at 1717 Osler Street. In such a case, the owner could make a report in person at Police Headquarters.
If you are reporting a motor vehicle collision that involves damage to a vehicle or other property and does not fall into a category listed above, please make your report directly to SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance) Dial-a-Claim:
Regina Commercial Claims Centre – 775-6000
(toll-free 1-800-667-9779)
Regina East Claims Centre – 775-6100
Regina Northwest Claims Centre – 751-1665
or file a claim with SGI’s Auto eClaim.
