Toronto, Ontario — According to a new online report, Transport Canada has released new content regulations for posting online recall information.
Notably, recent amendments to regulations under Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Act establish new requirements for companies to make recall information available online about their vehicle and equipment recalls.
The new online posting requirements apply to all recalls under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Additionally, as noted by Transport Canada, the goal of this new regulation is to enhance the availability and accessibility of recall information.
As part of the new content requirements—which came into effect on January 1, 2025—companies are now required to post recall information on their websites, alongside existing obligations to directly notify vehicle and equipment owners.
Moreover, companies are also required to include instructions on how to:
- Contact the company or an automobile dealership concerning any questions related to the notice
- Report a safety concern relating to a vehicle
- Inform the company of a transfer of ownership of a vehicle or a change of address
Companies are also required to include a statement indicating how to obtain any supplementary information, as well as the date in which the information was last updated.
