One day last winter when I was driving home from work, I got a call on my cellphone. Without hesitation, I went to pick up my phone as I always did, thinking nothing of it. I thought that if I quickly put the call on speaker phone I wouldn’t be distracted, but I was wrong. The same few seconds that I was looking down at my phone, the car in front of me had stopped and to avoid hitting them, I swerved and went into a ditch.
The experience was a huge eye-opener for me. I had been so naive thinking I could drive safely while operating a cell phone at the same time. Although my car was pretty damaged, the situation could have been much worse and I’m happy to share my story and encourage others that using a cellphone while driving is never worth it.
